I also read that he appeared in an avert for the lingerie chain Victoria’s Secret a few years back. Hopefully he wasn’t modelling their attire.
Dylan is also not too shy to do these one-off £1million gigs for rich Sheiks that A-list stars often do, but rarely broadcast. And did he also no release his last album exclusively through Starbucks? It’s sad I suppose, but human nature makes us greedy. I would find it hard to say ‘No’ too in his position.
Neil Young, to be fair, is staunchly against this kind of flagrant cashing in, which is why he better than Dylbob.
At least this for the Coop which seems to be a ethical thing at least.
I think it’s unfair to compare Iggy Pop’s nonsensical ramblings, about things he clearly has no idea about, to Bob Dylan allowing a co-operative with a strong ethical tradition to use one of his songs. Iggy is embarrassing in that advert and it makes me think he has gone senile.
I admire Neil Young’s stance. If he had more talent as a song writer, he would indeed be better than Bob Dylan instead of languishing among the Bruce Springsteens.
Also, just finished watching The Wrestler, which is an interesting film for at least two reasons.
1. It is an awesome film with an absolutely stunning performance from Mickey Rourke and a brilliant support by Marisa Tomei.
2. It shines a bat shaped spotlight on the inadequacies of the movie Batman Returns. It makes it look like nothing more than Die Hard for the noughties. Two dimensional tripe with a post modern nod for the mongo.
I could have guessed. The Wrestler is a very good film, but I liked it better in 1979 when it was called Rocky. Plus the ‘did he die or not’ ending was a bit second-year english essay writing. They might as well have had him wake up at the end and go ‘it was all a dream’. An interesting character study with solid performances, but didn’t really go anywhere, entirely predictable fair and a film that you forget abour as soon as you leave the cinema.
That said, Tomei’s tits and ass were equisite.
I’ve never said Batman Returns was a good film. I never much cared for the Tim Burton ones. But Dark Knight on the other hand is the best film this decade, without question. I am also not afraid to say I loved a film just because it is a blockbuster. Happy to be a ‘mongo’, although please don’t use hate words as I am staunch defender of the handicaps.
Dark Night: Tawdry crime caper.
The Wrestler: 100% absorbing masterpiece.
Selling out: These singers work/record for enormous international corporations. In that sense they all sold out before anyone even knew what selling out was.
If we are defining Selling Out as participating in the global state capitalist system then yes, almost everybody alive has sold out. If instead we define Selling Out as compromising personal morality, integrity or artistic vision for personal gain (financial or otherwise) then I think we can agree that neither Dylan nor Neil Young can be considered sell outs.
Iggy Pop, on the otherhand, is telling us to use one on-line insurer at the expense of others. I do not think he has come to this decision independently. He has merely repeated what they told him to say because they have bought him.
And another thing about adverts, how annoying is that Tetley Green Tea advert where at the end they say “Tetley Green Tea” really fast to the tune of The Adams Family… fucking risible!
I was relying on the fact that no-one else reads Popbitch. Bugger. I am going to have to generate original material from now on/ steal from another source.

As did 96 Tears when they appeared on a skiing CD soundtrack.
How dare you!
96 Tears are all keen skiers.

On the subject of selling out, I found these two videos – http://tvs-worst-adverts.co.uk/ewan-mcgregor-davidoff-adventure/

To lighten the mood, a wee joke:
“Dr, would you kiss me?” says the patient.
“No”, says the doctor. “You are a very beautiful
woman but it’s against my code of ethics.
“Please, just one kiss”, she asks again.
“It’s totally out of the question” he replies.
“Strictly speaking you shouldn’t even be sucking my cock.”
Recycled popbitch jokes have no place here Maverickmcp! Not bad though.
