Just listening noo, ‘Isn’t It A Lovely Night?’ seems quite gid on first glance…

I dinny quite ken what tae make of The Decemberists. Sometimes they seem a bit too cerebral and lyrically over contrived, other times they sound like a bunch of pirates singing sea shanties. And then they have some lovely songs which wind their way into your subconscious, like ‘Isn’t It A Lovely Night’ and my other favourite ‘Of Angels and Angles’.

This album is cohesive and the same melodies weave in and out of all the tracks. It’s clever but some of the tracks leave me cold. I can’t decide if I like his voice or not… I do like the womans voice. I can’t see me returning to the whole album but do like a few tracks.

    Wot yoo fink Sauzee?

16 Military Wives is gid, especially at the end with the chwumpits.

Same genre as Ben Folds and The Shins. The guy’s voice can be a bit shrill. Interestingly enough they’re Moz enthusiasts

Sauz has been quiet today. Best guesses…

    1. Spied viewing McP’s candid snaps. being grilled in a disciplinary hearing. (3/1)

    2. Busy workin. (50/1)

    3. Photoshopping Mozza’s bonce onto McP’s auto-erotic snap. (all bets are off)

was busy working for once and missed out on mcps snaps. where are they? u canny leave me out.

true oor colin does worship the moz. Picaresque is by far their best album this new one on first listen i wasnt too keen on as the whole album seems to be a long story from start to finish and everything is interconnected. they kind o done that oan the last album crane wife as well but stand out songs for me are The Rake’s Song, The Hazards Of Love 2 (Wager All). Isn’t It A Lovely Night? is just ok at the moment.

I think as they say its a grower but i dont like the john squire direction of adding led zep type riffs into the songs. and this lassie singing she hasnt been certified to be moz friendly so i find her a bit annoying until she states somewhere that she at least had a moz poster on her wall at some point. I will eventually get intae it i think but disappointing for me.

Get into Ladyhawke. Her album is Pet Shop Boys/ New Order style synth pop at its finest. And she’s from the New Zealand. Probably the only artist from that country I like, aside from John ‘You’re The Voice’ Farnham. Remember when he was in Home and Away as himself and visited Sally (who later went on to grow exceptionally large breasts, but that’s not for here) and played ‘You’re The Voice’ To make her feel better. It had bagpipes on it tae. Actually, he wis a bit bit like Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Sorry, am I babbling? Please excuse me, too much crack

Ladyhawke is like a cross between Lady Gaga and MGMT. Unfortunately taking the worst qualities from each.

Although ‘Back of the Van’ is gid, reminds me of Cindy Lauper’s ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ and Don Henley’s ‘End of the Innocence’.

RE: your last point – and what’s bad about that?

BTW I’ve tried long and hard to like Joni Mitchell but nut. Awful. Screechy, wanky hippie meanderings at their worst.

To dislike Joni Michell is to surrender any right to have any opinion on any piece of music, melody, chord, note or noise. Any poem, novel, paragraph, sentence, word, letter of the alphabet or anything written anywhere symbolising anything, ever.

Barring the invention of a time machine, she is the single most important musical artist of the 20th century.

If you cannot appreciate her voice, appreciate her musical skill. If you cannot appreciate that, appreciate her honesty. If you cannot appreciate that, appreciate her originality. If you cannot appreciate any of these things, then you are an unlucky person indeed.

    I prefer the phrase

‘If he fell into a barrel of shit he’d come out with a gold watch.’

Although it has the opposite meaning.

Is it home time yet? I didn’t even have a leaf piece!
