Good Lyrics / Bad Lyrics
2009 July 7
Love this line from Your Star Will Shine…
Your distant sun, will shine like the gun, that’s trained right between your Daddy’s eyes
Equal parts light & dark, life & death, condensed into a bare minimum of words. It’s a pity the song itself is blighted by a blustery sound and Brown plastering a thick manc accent over it all (sun=soan, gun=goan).
Now to the bad…
On Your Own by Blur. Sorry Mav, maybe this is prominent in my mind due to the hoo-ha about their return but it’s the worst set of lyrics I can think of.

Good lyrics
Aimee Mann – 4th of July
Bad lyrics
Stevie Nicks and John Stewart – Gold
The Jim Bash verse is my favourite in Gold… for all the wrong reasons.
There should also be a category for lyrics which you are not sure if they are absolutely rubbish or unbridled genius.
Not sure Lyrics
Starsailor – Alcoholic
bad or witty: Morrissey – King Lear-
Your boyfriend he
Went down on one knee
Well could it be
He’s only got one knee?”
bad or clever: Lloyd Cole – Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken-
If you really want to get straight
Read Norman Mailer
Or get a new tailor
Haven’t heard either of these songs, I’ll check them out tonight.
From lyrics alone I’d say Moz’s are awful and LC’s are silly but could work, dependant on delivery.
Good Lyrics
Joni Micthell – Blue
Bad Lyrics
Erasure – Push Me Shove Me
Not Sure Lyrics
Suede – W.S.D
King Lear is terrible! What was Moz thinkin wi that yin?
The LC song is ok. Doesn’t offend too much.
